The wheels are in motion to open bids in a couple months for Valparaiso's next, and perhaps most high-profile roundabout. City officials say construction on the five-points roundabout, which would be on north Calumet Avenue, where it meets up with Vale Park and Roosevelt Roads, might then be able to start this spring.

Most Morning South Shore Trains Temp. Suspended

Most South Shore trains have been temporarily suspended due to a derailment in Michigan City. There are no injuries but service is affected. We expect this disruption to affect nearly all of the morning rush hour. Trains 110 and 112 will depart East Chicago at the scheduled time making all stops. Limited seating will be available. Metra Electric will honor South Shore tickets. We will update this message when new information is available.

Look out for hazardous driving conditions around the Region for Sunday. We could see freezing rain, possibly mixed with a short period of sleet, with temperatures just above the freezing mark. A pilot program that allows NIPSCO customers to designate a portion, or all, of their monthly electric usage to be attributable to power generated by renewable energy sources is now underway.
