Protesters Don't Want Detention Center in Hobart

Hobart residents and others packed the meeting room at last night's Hobart City Council meeting, protesting any possibility that the new owners of the former St. Sava Church property on the city's west side would build a detention center to process immigrants. Published reports have said the property near Robinson Lake east of I-65 has been purchased by The GEO Group, a Florida-based company that builds and runs correctional and detention facilities around the world. The mayor and city council members told the audience no formal proposals or plans have been brought before the city by the company.
