In the Chicago-area Thursday night, authorities say a driver was shot by a police officer after an alleged shoplifting incident at a Kohl's department store in Romeoville. Officials say two suspects ran from the store to a waiting car, where an officer got caught in a struggle and was dragged by the vehicle. That's when another officer fired his gun, believing his fellow officer was in danger. "The driver was struck, we believe, one time in the shoulder area," said Romeoville Police Chief Mark Turvey, "and at that time the car came to a stop". The injured officer and the driver were sent to the hospital. "The officer was dragged, quite some distance," Chief Turvey said, "He couldn't get out." Three people were arrested.
