Indiana health officials today announced three influenza-related deaths, the first influenza deaths of the 2013-2014 flu season. State Health Commissioner William VanNess, M.D. says influenza is now widespread across the Hoosier state and encourages everyone to become vaccinated. The CDC reports several flu-related deaths, including children, have been reported across the nation and predict the numbers will increase as the flu season continues. Dr. VanNess reminds Hoosiers to clean your hands often with soap and warm water, cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve or tissue, and if your sick to stay home.
Symptoms of flu include:
· fever 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or greater
· muscle aches
· sore throat
