Mayor James Snyder has declared a state of emergency for the City of Portage due to the Winter Storm and dangerous wind chills. Portage roads have not been shutdown, but residents are being encouraged to limit travel. As of 10am this morning, the Portage Street Department reported all main roads had been cleared curb-to-curb, with secondary roads being 65-percent clear. City officials remind residents to leave their faucet on to a slow drip, and to check on the elderly, children and pets often, as they are the most susceptible to frostbite if outdoors for any extended time. The Portage Fire Department reports responding to several non-weather related calls throughout Sunday night and this morning and the City reports tomorrow's City Council meeting has been postponed until January 14th due to the weather.
