In Hammond overnight, a semi crash had the Interstate 80/94 east bound entrance ramp to Cline Avenue closed for about four and a half hours. Indiana State Police Lowell Post say a preliminary investigation revealed that shortly after midnight a semi hauling scrap metal was in the right lane which was covered in slushy snow when the semi pulled to the left, struck the impact attenuator at the front of the concrete barrier wall that divides Cline Avenue ramp from the I-80 east bound mainline.
Troopers say the semi slid down the concrete barrier wall, causing the semi to jack-knife. The front drive tires were torn off and one set of the rear tandems, or wheels, on the trailer were also torn off, police say, coming to rest on the left shoulder. Authorities say the driver was taken to an area hospital with complaint of pain. [Photos/Indiana State Police]
