Authorities say a man with a handgun and ammunition was arrested on the campus of Purdue University Calumet in Hammond. University spokesman Wes Lukoshus says in response to a stalking complaint by a residential female student, Purdue Calumet police officers apprehended a male suspect from a vehicle parked outside the Purdue Calumet University Village student housing area off 173rd Street about 1-o'clock Thursday afternoon. "In apprehending the suspect," Lukoshus told the Region News Team today, "police recovered a handgun and ammunition from the suspect's vehicle. Subsequently, the suspect was arrested wthout incident and was placed in custody of the Hammond Police Department Thursday afternoon. The suspect's vehicle was impounded by Purdue University Calumet Police. There were no shots fired during this incident." Lukoshus says the suspect is not a student at Purdue Calumet. He says there was no imminent danger and that the suspect was apprehended quickly, and an email was sent out to students regarding what happened.
