Indiana Governor Mike Pence was at Portage Fire Station one this morning to present a first of its kind award to public safety responders in the Region. Governor Pence stated that responders here in northwest Indiana went above and beyond the call of duty during a prolonged bout of extreme weather over the last few weeks. Pence called the efforts of police, fire and EMS workers in the Region, not only a model for all of northwest Indiana, but the entire state, the nation and the world. The Governor closed by extending to all northwest Indiana public safety officials the first ever Indiana Governor's Public Safety Awards.
