Senate to Decide on Marriage Amendment

The Indiana State Senate is expected to take up a proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage today – and decide whether or not to return it to its original form. House Joint Resolution 3 amendment passed the Indiana House last month, but language was taken out that would have also prohibited same-sex civil unions. It's been said removing that second sentence of the resolution will prevent the question from going before Hoosier voters in the form of a referendum for a couple years, instead of being on the ballot this November. In Indiana, state law currently prohibits gay marriage.
