Rainy Windy Thursday Then Temps Drop

Weather-wise, we've got a couple of big issues today the Region is keeping an eye on today... the rains and the winds. Dr. Bart Wolf, Associate Professor of Meteorology at Valparaiso University, says there's the combination of melting snow and potentially heavy rain that could lead to flooding. Add to that the frost in the ground and "the water really doesn't have any place to go," said Dr. Wolf.  Dr. Wolf says we also have the potential for some strong winds with storms today...and, as the cold-front comes through later, winds could be pretty strong as well, with gusts of 40 to 50 miles an hour.  We have a Flood Watch through this afternoon, and a High Wind Warning in effect this evening through tonight. Also, this morning, an Urban and Small Stream Advisory was issued for rain and melting snow.  This morning we've gotten reports of high-standing water on the Indiana Toll Road through the Gary corridor.
