Today marks the 27th anniversary of the disappearance of Linda Lynn Weldy, a ten year old girl who exited a school bus in front of her residence on McClung Road in LaPorte and who was never seen again alive. The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office reports the girl's body was discovered on March 17th, 1987, on an abandoned railroad right-of-way near County Road 500 South near Kingsbury and cause of death was determined to be a homicide.
The Sheriff's Office reports that dispite numerous interviews, no one was ever identified as seeing the ten year old after she exited the bus and the killer, or killers, remain at large. Authorities report they believe the case is solvable and ask that anyone who could assist in this investigation to please contact the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office Detective Sgt. Ron Heeg at (219) 326-7700 ext. 2335 or Detective Adam Hannon (219) 326-7700 ext. 2405.
