At a Monday press conference at the Merrillville Municipal Complex, police released surveillance video from surrounding businesses in connection to the November 4th, 2013 murder of an employee of the Piatak Meats, located in Merrillville. The victim, 25 year-old Andrew Fugate, was discovered slain inside the facility located in the 6200 block of Broadway.
At the conference, Merrillville Police Department's Chief Detective Robert Wiley told the media assemble that during a subsequent investigation of the murder, security camera footage from a neighboring business showed that a white SUV believed to be a Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon pulled d up to the business at around 4:48 CST on the morning of the 4th and that two people got out of the SUV and the suspects are in the business for about 10 minutes before going back to the SUV. Chief Detective Wiley than said the vehicle left the parking lot heading northbound on Broadway.
Additional security footage from businesses along Broadway (including, in the photo above, Davita Dialysis picked up the SUV traveling north on Broadway away from the scene.
On Friday,the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Merrillville Police Department and Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force announced an reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the death of Andrew Fugate.
