Excessive speed is being blamed that rolled a semi on its side as the driver was exiting off of eastboung 80/94 onto northbound Cline Avenue shortly before noon on Tuesday.
Indiana State Police say the truck, out of Racine, Wisconsin was heading to East Chicago, when the semi, hauling over 70-thousand pounds of bundled scrap metal, went around the ramp curve and rolled onto its driver's side spilling out most of its load over the concrete barrier wall onto northbound Cline Avenue. A Ford pickup driven by a Merrillville man was in the right lane northbound Cline Avenue and was unable to avoid hitting one of the bundled scrap metal in the road.
Neither driver was injured and the semi driver was cited for Speed too Fast to Avoid a Collision and Unsecure Load.
Both lanes of northbound Cline Ave. were closed for about 45 minutes in order to pick up the scrap metal and to tow the pickup.
