The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld the sentence for a Hobart man convicted in the 2009 death of a two-year-old girl whose body was found burned and encased in concrete in a LaPorte County swamp. 28-year-old Timothy Tkachik received 40-years behind bars after pleading guilty to neglect. His co-defendant and then-girlfriend 23-year-old Engelica Castillo was found guilty of murdering Jada Justice and is serving a 65-year prison term. Police say the child was beaten while the couple was babysitting her and that they initially told authorities police the child had been kidnapped from a car at a Gary gas station.
