Breaking News
Porter County Sheriffs Police say traffic is not being allowed through or near the area of McCool Road and Midway Drive in South Haven due to what was described as a volatile gas situation being investigated at a vacant home in the 700 block of McCool Road at the northeast corner of that intersection. It's unknown how long the restriction will be necessary. Sheriffs Police, Portage Police, South Haven Fire and Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) are among those on scene. Authorities also say at another house next door, no one is home.  Representatives from Portage Township Schools are also on scene. South Haven Elementary is located behind and to the east of the house. Police say at this point everyone at the school has been moved to the far east side of the building as a precaution.  Authorities say NIPSCO went to the house for an electric shut-off order and equipment of NIPSCO's detected a potental gas issue.
