The Porter County Board of Commissioners has voted to join the Shared Ethics Advisory Commission, becoming the first Porter County member of the all-volunteer group. The commission currently counts ten Lake County cities and towns as members, as well as the county of LaPorte. The group provides training on ethical decision making to employees of Lake, Porter and La Porte Counties, and holds their annual Ethics in Government Breakfast in March, which is National Ethics Month. It'll cost the county five-thousand dollars to join, and three-thousand dollar a year afterwards. Former longtime Indiana 9th District Congressman Lee Hamilton was the keynote speaker at the 4th annual Ethics in Government Breakfast in Lake County last week at Avalon Manor in Hobart: The Commission is asking Region political candidates in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties to sign an ethics action pledge. Commission membership is open to all communities in each of those counties. Current members of the commission include ten Lake County cities – Crown Point, Dyer, East Chicago, Gary, Highland, Hobart, Lowell, Munster, Schererville and Whiting, the county of LaPorte.
