Stretches of Indianapolis Blvd. in both Hammond and Whiting are about to be rebuilt. Project engineers and INDOT told the Whiting/Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce Thursday that the work is scheduled to begin sometime this spring. Portions of the roadway will be rebuilt and resurfaced with new left turn lanes added and new ornamental lighting will be the same in both cities. Officials stressed that the road will remain open throughout the project. Concern about possible impact on community events in Whiting were raised, but the audience was told that no work would be happening on the 4th of July weekend at that the project would not be anywhere near when Whiting's Pierogi Fest is celebrated.
