Indiana State Police say alcohol contributed to a single vehicle crash on I-65 that hospitalizes a Crown Point man early Thursday morning.
Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Chad Woody revealed that at approximately 4:40 a.m.,  Thursday, a 1998 Ford, driven by John J. Berrios Junior, 32 of Crown Point, was south bound on I-65 at the 257 mile marker (this is one mile south of Ridge Road) in the middle lane when for unknown reasons went off the roadway.
The Ford went off the road to the east and struck the concrete median barrier wall bounced back across all lanes of south bound traffic and hit a guardrail off the outer shoulder. The Ford came to rest partially in the right lane.
Berrios was taken and admitted to South Lake Methodist Hospital in Merrillville for head injuries. Alcohol is a factor in this crash.
Berrios was cited for Driving While Suspended and Operating While Intoxicated.
