A Chicago man has been charged in federal court in connection with a bank robbery in Merrillville Thursday. Court documents say Dexter Howard left a Fifth Third Bank branch in the 84-hundred block of Broadway with just over 28-hundred dollars. The man allegedly told authorities he robbed the bank so he could have money to “live on”. He was stopped by Merrillville Police on I-65 near the Ridge Road exit that day. Another Fifth Third Bank branch in Merrillville a few miles north in the 67-hundred block of Broadway was robbed March 13th, and the Times today reports officials believe the same man was involved in both. There were no injuries reported .
