Next month Hammond Police will be conducting a couple of enforcements they would like to make residents aware of. Lt. Patrick Vicari told the Region News Team officers will resume the pedestrian enforcement grant during the month of April targeting high schools and middle schools, both before and after school, for students who jaywalk and disregard the traffic signals. Lt. Vicari says every year they have at least one or two crashes involving students at the schools.
Lt. Vicari says officers will also be conducting roving seat belt enforcement in April as well as participating in roving patrols conducted by the Lake County Drunk Driving Task Force. Both enforcements are being made possible through grants from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
