Appraisals are apparently about to begin for land in the possible right-of-way for the proposed Illiana Expressway. Today's Times reports home and landowners on the Illinois side of what would be an east-west tollway have started to get letters from appraisers asking for permission to make on-site inspections. A spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Transportation tells the paper those letters have gone out on behalf of IDOT. The 47-mile highway would link I-65 in south Lake County, Indiana, to I-55 in Illinois. Officials have said construction on the long-discussed highway could begin in late Spring of 2015.
