BP has updated their previous estimate of recovered oil following Monday's discharge into Lake Michigan. The company this afternoon announced a preliminary estimate of between 15-to-39 barrels of oil recovered, which includes oil collected by vacuum trucks and absorbent booms, as well as solid material collected from the shoreline. Meanwhile, the Mayor of Chicago says he wants a “full accounting” from BP after a crude oil discharge into Lake Michigan from the Whiting refinery was reported Monday evening.
BP reports they will continue to monitor the shoreline and has procedures in place to collect additional oil as discovered.
