Alleged EC Bank Robbery Suspects are in Custody

The FBI says an East Chicago couple wanted in connection with a "takeover-style" armed bank robbery in East Chicago has been arrested in Missouri.   Authorities announced they were searching for Jeremiah Ellis and Ashley Patterson, of the 48-hundred block of Homerlee in East Chicago, on federal arrest warrants in the robbery of the First Merchants Bank in the 47-hundred block of Indianapolis Boulevard Saturday morning.   Federal officials allege the suspects were both armed with handguns when they entered the bank Saturday morning, announced a robbery, and ordered bank employees and customers to the floor. As East Chicago police officers tried to stop the subjects, police allege one of them got out of the vehicle, fired at the officers, then got back into the vehicle and fired at officers again as the vehicle drove away.
