Indiana Governor Mike Pence was in the Region this afternoon where he delivered the keynote address at the Times Business and Industry Hall of Fame luncheon. Governor Pence told those in attendance about his four strategies for growing Indiana: fiscal integrity, tax relief and a moratorium on new regulation, infrastructure and schools. On the topic of infrastructure, Governor Pence thanked northwest Indiana leaders for their support for the Illiana Expressway, which he says will give the Region the ability to grow businesses and communities and also cited the proposed South Shore Rail expansion in south Lake County, which he says presents an opportunity to expand the economy of the Region.
The Governor also praised the General Assembly for passing the Pre-K pilot program and singled out State Senator Earline Rodgers, who he called the “Godmother” of Pre-K education initiatives. The law calls for a five-county pilot program, and Pence says they will be looking strongly at northwest Indiana when identifying what areas will be chosen.
