A first-ever national day of action dubbed “America's PrepareAthon!” will take place on Wednesday, April 30th which will focus on preparing organizations and individuals for tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding and wildfires. Lake County Department of Homeland Security/Emergency Management Agency Director, Jodi Richmond, told the Region News Team they are registered and plan to participate, and are task with getting that information out to the public.
Richmond says residents can get information by either contacting their office or through their website, https://www.lakecountyin.org/portal/media-type/html/group/emergency-mgmt/page/default.psml Twitter or Facebook accounts, the National Weather Service weather.gov/chicago or your local city or town's websites. The National Weather Service reports that despite an increase in weather-related disasters, nearly 70-percent of Americans have not participated in a preparedness drill or exercise in the past two-years, aside from a fire drill.
