A Lake Station Police Officer going to a fight in progress call was involved in a crash that resulted in four people going to the hospital, including the policeman. Indiana State Police say a preliminary investigation revealed shortly before 8:30 Saturday night the 35-year-old officer was driving a fully-marked Chevrolet Tahoe police car northbound on Ripley Street with all emergency lights and siren activated. Officials say the officer was making a left turn onto the north junction of Old Hobart Road when he failed to see a car that was southbound on State Road 51, according to the report. Police say a southbound semi was in the left turn lane waiting to make a left turn into a local truck stop, which authorities say obscured the line of sight of the police car and Mustang, according to the report, and as the police car made its turn, it hit the driver's front of the Mustang. The officer and the three people in the car were all taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police say, and all were wearing seat belt. Indiana State Police were contacted by the Lake Station Police Department to investigate the crash. [Photo/provided]
