Search for Missing Boater Called Off Due to WX Conditions

Search efforts were called off this morning (Monday) for a Chicago man who went missing about a-mile-and-a-half off shore of the Michigan City Lighthouse this weekend. D-N-R Law Enforcement Sgt. Shawn Brown told the Region News Team they were planning to use sonar to resume searching the waters of Lake Michigan today (Monday) for the 29-year-old, but the waters weren't cooperative for any type of sonar operation, but an on-water search of the area was conducted with no success and they are now waiting on Mother Nature and playing it by ear as to when conditions could become favorable.
Sgt. Brown says an almost ten-hour sonar search took place on Sunday with no success. The missing man and other passengers tried to rescue two boaters who went swimming and floated away from the vessel. Coast Guard rescue crews and good Samaritan boaters on-scene pulled several passengers out of the water on Saturday evening.
Authorities report alcohol was being consumed on the boat.
