Heat Advisory Returns Wednesday

A Heat Advisory from the National Weather Service will be in effect Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.   The predicted high temperature will be in the upper 90's with heat indices ranging from 105 to 110 degrees.  As a result, NIPSCO is reminding customers that as restoration efforts continue, they can contact 211 or their local municipal office for the latest information on the nearest cooling centers available to them. Below is a current list of known cooling centers:

East Chicago: Heritage Hall 4506 Tod Ave. Open: 24 hours. 
 
Hammond: Civic Center, 5825 S. Sohl Ave. Open: 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.  Jean Sheppard Community Center, 3031 JF Mahoney Dr. Open: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Gary: West Side High School, 9th and Gerry St. Open: 24 hours.   Gary Area Career Center, 1800 East 35th Ave. Open: 24 hours. 
Calumet Township Trustee’s Multi-Purpose Center, 1900 W. 41st Ave. Open: 24 hours.   Public Safety Facility, 555 Polk St. Open: 24 hours.
Borman Square Pavilion, 750 Madison St. Open: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Griffith: North Fire Station, 1601 N. Indiana Franklin Center/YMCA (Room 107, 211 N. Griffith Blvd. Town Hall (Lower level), 111 N. Broad St.

Merrillville: Town Hall, 7820 Broadway Ave. Open: 24 hours.

Munster: Centennial Park Clubhouse, 900 N. Centennial Dr. Open: Tuesday, 5 p.m. -12 a.m.; Wednesday 6 a.m. - TBD
