One firefighter and five other persons were reportedly injured in an apartment fire that broke Friday afternoon in a 4-story apartment building in the 700 block of 35^th Avenue in Gary. Published reports say firefighters arrived around 4 o'clock and battled heavy smoke and flames which penetrated all four floors. Published reports say most residents got out of the building on their own however one woman reportedly jumped from an upper floor, landing on the ground, she, along with three other residents and three fire fighters were transported to a hospital, reports say.  The fire was brought under control in about an hour and an investigation continues to determine the cause.
