Federal health officials say there's a recall for listeria-tainted ricotta salata cheese that's being linked to illnesses in eleven states and at least one death. The Frescolina brand ricotta salata cheese imported from Italy and distributed by Forever Cheese of New York was sold to distributors for retailers and restaurants in Indiana, Illinois, and sixteen other states and the District of Columbia. At this time, there were no reported cases of illness in Indiana. Health officials note that ricotta salata is a salty white cheese made from pasteurized sheep’s milk and is NOT the same as the ricotta cheese that's a very soft cheese often sold in plastic tubs.
