A 48 year old woman was found dead Thursday at an area motel in Chesterton, reportedly due to an apparent suicide. Chesterton Police report the Michigan City woman had checked in just after midnight Thursday morning, and contacted the front desk about 9:30am to say she wanted to stay another night. Police say they were called after futile attempts by management to make contact with the victim to obtain payment. Officers reportedly had to force their way into the room, which had its security lock engaged, and a chair placed in front of the door. The woman's body was found lying on the bed, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head, with a firearm located next to the body. Authorities says they spoke to a tenant next door to the deceased, but he said he was sleeping and didn't hear anything out of the ordinary during the time the death is suspected to have occurred.
