A member of the Jasper County Correctional Division and the prisoner he was transporting to the Pulaski County Jail were hospitalized this afternoon after a two-vehicle crash in Jasper County. Indiana State Police report the 60 year old officer, was eastbound on State Road 14, just west of State Road 421, around 1:17pm, and was attempting to pass a slow moving grain truck, when due to the rain, failed to see a westbound pick, and the two vehicles collided head-on. State Police say the officer was extricated from his vehicle, and he, along with the 35 year old prisoner, were both taken to an area hospital. Authorities say the prisoner suffered a serious head injury, and was later airlifted to a hospital in Champaign, Illinois, while the officer was to be transported to a hospital in Lafayette. The driver of the pickup, a 53 year old Rensselaer man was hospitalized as well.
