The region is expected to be battered by high winds tonight and tomorrow, which is why the Jasper County Rural Electric Membership Corporation is offering some safety tips. First and foremost, they ask that you stay away from power lines, and note that as the wind picks up, it could cause trees to be uprooted, or branches could break, causing damage to power lines. They also advocate not touching any trees or limbs that are in contact with power lines, as they could be energized and very dangerous, and remind you to also avoid broken or low power lines.
