Cedar Lake's first "green" business, the new Strack and Van Til supermarket will open its doors later this spring.  Ian Nicolini, Cedar Lake Town Administrator, says the town is proud to have the new store be the town's first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) built project.

Nicolini says along with evergy efficient LED lighting, the 50,000 square foot facility will feature skylights to take advantage of natural lighting.  The Town Manager also wants the Region to know that the "welcome mat" has been rolled out for other LEED thinking developers and business owners.  Nicolini says "we want to make sure developers know that there are incentives available to spur (on) these kind of projects" adding, "we worked closed with Strack and Van Til to issue economic development revenue bonds for the project to help pay for a lot of those improvements."

He also says conserving resources is a good fit for Cedar Lake, "it makes sense when you live in a community with a lake at the center of it. that you are including sustainability as part of your economic development strategy.  And we really thought Strack and Van Til was a great nexus and a great opportunity to do that" adding, "we're absolutely thrilled  to have a LEED certified building in Cedar Lake and Northwest Indiana."
