Portage Detective is Indiana Officer of the Year

A northwest Indiana police officer has been named the Indiana Police Officer of the Year by the American Legion, Department of Indiana. A 17-year veteran of the Portage Police force, Detective Corporal Janis Regnier is now in the running for the national honor. Regnier is the first female officer to receive the Lewis-Schmidt Award. Regnier is the fourth Portage officer is the past decade to receive the state award, following fellow officers John Ryan, Troy Williams and Mark Monks.
