The Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act signed by the Governor of Illinois Pat Quinn Thursday makes the state the twentieth in the nation to allow the use of medical marijuana. The law, which takes effect January first, is a pilot program that allows the use of marijuana to provide relief toward any of 35 diseases, including cancer, MS and AIDS.  Those eligible will be able to purchase up to two and a half ounces of marijuana every two weeks. Sponsor of the legislation Illinois State Representative Lou Lang of Skokie says this law has the toughest standards in the nation, with just 22 growing centers to be licensed by the state.
