At Least Two Killed in I-65 Crash

Indiana State Police at the Lowell Post say at least two people were killed in a fiery three-vehicle crash that shut down northbound I-65 near the DeMotte/Roselawn exit last night near mile marker 230. Due to the severity of damage to a Jeep that was struck from behind by one semi, pushing it into the back of another, investigators say they have yet to determine the number of casualties inside. The Jeep has been taken to a secure location so emergency personnel can extricate victims. Police say at least two bodies were observed in the wreckage at the crash scene. Troopers say a preliminary investigation shows the first semi and the Jeep stopped due to traffic backup from an approaching work zone, when the Jeep was rear-ended by the second semi, igniting a fire that engulfed the Jeep and part of both semis. Northbound lanes were closed from shortly before 10-o'clock last night until about 6:30 this morning.
