BP
BP's Whiting Refinery will be required to cut its mercury releases into the waters of Lake Michigan by more than half, starting November 1st, when a new permit kicks in. The requirement is part of a final ruling on the permit application, through the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, which will requires BP to discharge no more than eight-point-seven-five parts per million of mercury. B-P must also continue to work on technologies to reduce mercury emissions into the lake with Purdue University Calumet's Water Institute.
