Charges are expected in Lake County today against two 17-year-old male juveniles from Gary suspected of robbing people of cellphones in Hessville in the past week. Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller told the Region News Team today one adult victim suffered a heart attack afterwards, and a juvenile victim was struck in the face. He says police in Hammond, and East Chicago, Merrillville and Gary Police, are looking to see if other similar crimes were committed by the same suspects. Hammond officers were aided by members of the newly-formed Region STOP Team in the arrests made Wednesday. Miller says two juveniles were robbed of their cellphones at 173rd and Grand Wednesday evening, and the arrests were made that night. Miller says the Hessville robberies were happening between 4 and 8 pm, in neighborhoods generally between Kennedy and Cline Avenues, mostly north of 169th Street.
