Shooting Death in Hammond

Police in Hammond are investigating a shooting death that authorities say appears to have been a justifiable homicide. The Lake County Coroners office says 30-year-old Jonathan Butler of Chicago suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead in the four-thousand block of Grover Street shortly after one-o'clock Sunday morning. Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller says it appears the homeowner shot Butler in self-defense during an argument over money, which published reports say police believe is related to a drug debt. Authorities say evidence from the investigation is being presented to the Lake County Prosecutor to determine if any charges will be filed.
