POLL: U.S. VOTERS PREFER HEMORRHOIDS TO CONGRESS

A North Carolina pollster said its survey indicates U.S. voters prefer hemorrhoids to the current U.S. Congress. Public Policy Polling said its telephone poll of 502 registered voters, conducted Oct. 4-6, found 53 percent of those polled have a higher opinion of hemorrhoids than Congress, while 73 percent said they prefer jury duty to the legislative body and 46 percent said they had a higher opinion of witches than lawmakers. The poll indicated Congress has an overall approval rating of 8 percent, with 7 percent of Democrats expressing approval and 10 percent of Republicans saying they approve.

ROLLER-COASTER MALFUNCTION LEAVES PASSENGERS STRANDED

A roller-coaster malfunction left 10 to 12 passengers stranded high in the air at Universal Studios in Florida for approximately two hours until they could be rescued. The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla., had a glitch that caused the computers to go into safety mode, which stopped the ride last night. All riders were taken off and made their way down the emergency stairs. At the time of the malfunction, the riders were in a vertical position on the ride, but were soon shifted to make the rescue easier. There were no reports of injuries, and Orlando Fire Rescue was on scene at the theme park.

MIKE & MOLLY” TO RETURN EARLY AS CBS PULLS “WE ARE MEN”

After just two weeks, Monday nights on CBS are in for major shake-up. The network announced yesterday that freshman entry "We Are Men" would be pulled from the line-up after the show's two lackluster airings, paving the way for Season 4 of "Mike & Molly" (held for mid-season for just this reason) to bow earlier than planned.

ELTON JOHN ISN'T UP WITH THE TIMES

Last night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Elton John said he's never downloaded anything from the Internet. He said he doesn't have a phone.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU CHECK YOUR PHONE? THE AVERAGE PERSON DOES IT 110 TIMES A DAY (AND UP TO EVERY 6 SECONDS IN THE EVENING)

How many times do you check your phone? According to figures collected by a screen lock app, the average user actually checks their phone around 110 times day. During peak times, this equates to once every six or seven seconds, with some users unlocking their devices up to 900 times over the course of a day, which in reality is around 18 hours.  The information was collected by Android app Locket, which monitored how many times its 150,000 users checked their phone over in a day.  Although 110 times a day seems a high figure, other research suggests it may be even higher. At peak times, the average person checks their device around nice times an hour. Off peak, this drops to four times an hour.

REBEL WILSON: DIET COMPANIES FIGHTING TO SIGN HER AS SPOKESPERSON

Rebel Wilson has always incorporated self-deprecating jokes about her fuller figure into roles throughout her career, but might the star of ABC's "Super Fun Night" be willing to trade in the laughs for a lucrative spokesperson deal with a diet company? RadarOnline reports that Wilson is being pursued by the likes of Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, hoping that the star might follow in the footsteps of Jessica Simpson. "Rebel is asking for a fortune, but still looking at all the offers and is not ready to rule it out yet," a source tells the website.

Homemade Halloween

Annie's Blog

Yesterday, I spent hours with my mom doing what we do best... making halloween decorations. You see Halloween is a BIG DEAL in my family. Growing up my mom would always plan these elaborate Haunted Houses in our basement. From the spagetti guts, to the corn maze, to the chainsaw wielding killer chasing you down the alley she had horror covered. (So much so my sister still thinks our basement is haunted!)

As kids, we always were a part of the supply gathering process. I can remember one year she gave us all a garbage bag and told us not to come back till it was completely filled with leaves. Once we were all back, she proceeded to dump the bags throughout the basement for the right sound effect! (My dad wasn't too happy!) Or when she piled us in the bed of a pickup and we drove out to a corn field to "borrow" some corn stalks to build a corn maze. (Later that corn maze would set the backyard on fire, but that's another story!)

Now it is my turn to take over the tradition. Rob has already warned me he won't be a part of my shinannigans, but that hasn't slowed me down! I cannot wait till we have kids, so we can make our own basement haunted house! I guess this year I'll have to settle for the best front yard graveyard scene on the block! To be continued...

A dating website with a difference has been set up - for lonely hearts that have stopped beating. GhostSingles.com has some stunning profiles of potential love interests for the dead. An easy-to-use search feature allows you to choose between ghosts of people who have died horribly, mysteriously, tragically or suddenly. Lonely4ever, writes sadly: "So lonely... so alone... no tears to weep... alone." The website even has a Chat Now feature but warns that the living are strictly banned from the site, along with zombies and vampires.

ESQUIRE NAME SCARLETT JOHANSSON SEXIEST WOMAN ALIVE

Seven years after being named Esquire magazine's sexiest woman alive, Scarlett Johansson has earned the title for a second time. Johansson, who also won in 2006, is the first woman to get the honor twice.  The actress celebrated the accolade with a cover shoot for the popular glossy monthly. Last year's winner was Black Swan actress Mila Kunis. Johansson jokingly tells the magazine she's “gotta hustle” and “pretty soon the roles you're offered all become mothers. Then they just sort of stop.”
