Born in Northwest Indiana, Laura's a graduate of River Forest High School (home of the Ingots) and got her bachelor's degree from Purdue and a master's from Indiana University [we think she roots for both even when they play each other].
Her work has won several awards from the Indiana Broadcasters Association, Society of Professional Journalists/Indiana Chapter, and Network Indiana. She has also had academic papers selected for presentation at national conferences like the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and Broadcast Education Association.
Laura watched her share of game shows growing up and one summer while in California, she's chosen to be a contestant on "Sale of the Century". Her TV favorites include The Honeymooners, Project Runway, Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who and Star Trek (TNG and the original). She also enjoys crossword puzzles and when asked what some of her favorite places to visit are she says -- office supply stores.

PAWS Resale Shoppe Moves to Kennedy Ave. – All proceeds from the store benefit the animals at Humane Society Calumet Area in Munster.
The move takes PAWS from its old location on Jewett Street in Downtown Highland. The smaller store lacked space for donated items and provided inadequate parking for customers and donors. The increase in space allows for more items on display and increased support to the humane society. The larger parking lot provides ample parking and the potential for on-site animal adoption events.
A small space located next to the resale shop will provide corporate office space for shelter administrators. The shelter’s staff has grown in recent years with the creation and expansion of services such as low-cost spay/neuter and behavior programs. This expansion has left staff and volunteers competing for less and less space. The new space will provide room for further development and growth.
Executive Director Rachel Delaney said, “We’re excited for the new opportunities in the community and to give back to the animals.” Several new community programs are in the works and will be announced in the coming months.
PAWS Resale Shoppe is located at 8149 Kennedy Ave. in Highland in the strip mall located next to Plaza Lanes. Call 219-838-PAWS (7297) for more information.
INDIANAPOLIS (Sep. 5, 2013) - The Hoosier Lottery's new Lucky Dog Scratch-off encourages Hoosiers to "scratch a lucky dog." In doing so, the Hoosier Lottery hopes to bring awareness to animal adoption opportunities and the importance of spay and neuter programs in communities across Indiana.
The new Lucky Dog scratch-off game features photos of ten adoptable dogs from Indiana animal shelters; three from the Humane Society of Indianapolis, three from the Humane Association of Clark County and four from the Allen County SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.)
The Lucky Dog Scratch-off featuring the adoptable Indiana pups is available at approximately 4,000 Hoosier Lottery retailers around the state.
The Hoosier Lottery is partnering with more than 65 Indiana county Humane Societies and animal shelters to sponsor adoption events around the state beginning in September. The adoption events will culminate in late October with Indiana's biggest adoption event ever.
The Hoosier Lottery will be providing Lucky Dog tickets to partner shelters to give to those who adopt animals throughout the fall, while supplies last. In northwest Indiana, the Hoosier Lottery is partnering with the Humane Society Calumet Area, Jasper County Animal Shelter, Michiana Humane Society and SPCA, Newton County Animal Shelter and the Porter County Animal Shelter.
Each individual $2 ticket offers the chance to win cash prizes up to $10,000 and contains information directing players to log on to HoosierLottery.com/LuckyDog to learn more about animal adoption in northwest Indiana including how to donate winning and unscratched tickets to benefit local animal shelters.
As a partner, the Humane Society Calumet Area was given a limited amount of scratch-off tickets to hand out to adopters during this time of the game. The adopters will be given a chance to win $10,000 from the Lucky Dog Scratch-off game. The Humane Society Calumet Area is located at 421 45th Street in Munster.
Each ticket will also include mention of the Lucky Dog of the Week picture contest on Hoosier Lottery's Facebook page which is open to all Hoosiers 18 and older.
Additional information about all the Lucky Dog initiatives, including a list of all partner shelters and specific events, will be available at hoosierlottery.com/lucky dog .
