Valpo Woman Killed In Morning Crash

A two-vehicle crash east of Westville this morning took the life of a Valparaiso woman and injured four others including two children. LaPorte County Sheriff's police say 26-year-old, Katherine Atkins , died at the scene of the accident that critically injured the other driver. Reports say Sheriff's Deputies responded to the call around 7:30a.m. in the vicinity of Joliet Road west of Wozinak Road.  Sheriff's police say an SUV westbound on Joliet Rd. when it crossed the center line striking the car Atkin's was driving head-on.  The force of the impact forced both vehicles off the road to the south where the SUV rolled onto its side.  Police spokesman Captain John Boyd said two of the three children riding in the backseat of Atkin's car received serious injuries and were taken to Indiana University Health, La Porte campus with one of those injured transferred to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.  The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Saint Anthony Memorial Hospital in serious condition and was transfered to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.Captain Body said the crash remains underinvestigation by the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office and the LaPorte County FACT Team.
