Two recently retired educational leaders have been appointed to key administrative positions during a special Valparaiso school board meeting Monday night. Mike Berta, former superintendent of Portage Community Schools, will be Valparaiso's interim superintendent while Jim Doane, former Valparaiso High School principal will serve as assistant superintendent. According to http://posttrib.suntimes.com/news/porte, all the key central office administrators left due to state budget cutbacks, personnel reductions and other reasons. Berta says he'll find a new CFO before seeking a curriculum specialist. The School board president, is quoted in the article as saying “Berta has one focus 'kids, kids and kids.”
