Gary Man Killed in Gyrocopter Crash

Illinois State Police say a Gary man died from injuries in a crash after taking off from Lansing Municipal Airport in a gyrocopter shortly before 11:30 am Monday. The pilot was identified as 66-year-old Edward Wiggins, who was pronounced dead at Community Hospital in Munster. Police say no one on the ground was injured when the rotorcraft crashed in a corn field adjacent to the airport. The National Transportation Safety Board is trying to determine why the crash happened.
