The US Army Corps of Engineers and other officials have scheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning [10 am] to mark the completion of a confined disposal facility and the start of dredging at the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal in East Chicago. The US Army Corps of Engineers will be removing millions of cubic yards of polluted sediment from the waterway. Authorities say the Indiana Harbor and Canal have not been dredged since 1972 because a disposal site has not been available until now.
