A 35 year old Michigan City man was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison Friday after being indicted on federal drug charges on ten separate counts. Michigan City Police report Jason Rife accepted a plea agreement, where he pled guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, in this case heroin. Authorities say an investigation into Rife distributing narcotics in Michigan City in 2011, while serving a State sentence on work release, began after police started receiving numerous tips from concerned citizens, and that after completing this investigation, Rife was arrested on numerous charges, subsequent to LaPorte County Superior Court finding probable cause for the issuance of a warrant for his arrest. Michigan City Police report the Federal Court took into account Rife's criminal history, on battery and drug charges, prior to sentencing.
