A 66-year old Dyer man has been medi-vac'd to an area hospital with injuries received when his car went into the path of a train in an unincorporated area near Dyer. Sgt. Patricia Van Til, Public Information Officer of the Lake County Sheriff's Department says a C-S-X train was heading north, at the 77th and Calumet Avenue crossing in Dyer, and while that crossing has no gates, Van Til says crossing lights were flashing and the train's horn was blaring, when an eastbound red, P-T Crusier, with one male occupant drove into the path of the train. Sgt. Van Til says officers cleared the area around 3 pm this afternoon but traffic tipsters reported that a train was still blocking the crossings at 77th and 81st around three-fifteen. The accident remains under investigation.
