Organizers are reminding people that there still is time to donate to Tri-Creek Lumber and Hardware's 6th Annual Coat Drive, but only through December 29th. Nancy Panozzo of Tri-Creek Lumber says the coat drive started about six years ago "when there was interest from the community." Panozzo says "someone found out about it and that the need was great at St. Jude's house in Crown Point." She says then churches in town were contacted and discovered a need there too for warm, winter clothing.
Panozzo says that while they have received plenty of donated adults coats, they urged need chidlren's coats of all sizes "from infants, toddlers and elementary (sizes) to high school age kids." She also says that everyone at Tri-Creek is warmly touched by new coats that have been donated, "I don't know if they are purchased and brought in by individuals or a group of people who pool their money, but we think that it's totally awesome that these people take the time and money to go out and shop for brand new coats, hats and scarfs and they bring them in for the coat drive." She adds "we think it's wonderful."
Anyone wishing to give to the coat drive can drop off new coats or gently used, clean winter coats to Tri-Creek Lumber located at 1895 E. Commercial Avenue in Lowell. They are also collecting new hats, gloves, mittens and scarves. Store hours are Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8am to 3pm. Tri-Creek Lumber will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
