Three Region residents are among the first appointees to the new Indiana Environmental Rules Board, created during the 2012 legislative session to combine the former air pollution control, water pollution control and solid waste management boards. Of its 16 members, eleven are appointed by the governor from various industries and the general public. The local appointees are Tom Anderson of Michigan City, owner of Conservation Connections, LLC, a conservation consulting group, representing environmental interests... Kelly Carmichael of Merrillville, director of environmental policy and permitting at NiSource, representing public utilities... and Ted Niemiec [nemmek] of East Chicago, medical director and manager of health services at ArcelorMittal [arseller-mittle] Indiana Harbor representing health professionals.
